Organic Midwifery Fees

The fees charged for antenatal and postnatal appointments depend on whether or not you have your appointments at the midwives home offices or in your own home.

Appointments with your midwife usually take around an hour but can be longer if needed.

Please contact Organic Midwifery for a detailed fee structure.

Medicare Rebates

As mentioned above, many of the services offered by Organic Midwifery for pregnancy care, education and postnatal care attract a Medicare rebate.

The rebate, however, is not applicable to on call and labour attendance fee.

The amount of rebate you can expect to receive depends on your family’s personal circumstances and spending on health care in relation to the Medicare Safety net. Please visit the Medicare website or discuss with your midwife the rebates offered.

The scheduled fee and the Medicare benefits paid to you as a rebate by Medicare depend on the type of appointment/service you are offered by your midwife.

As legislation surrounding Medicare Rebates changes from time to time, it is recommended that you visit the Department of Health website to ensure you are aware of current eligibility governing rules.

What is the Medicare Safety Net?

The Medicare Safety Net provides families and individuals with financial assistance for high out-of-pocket costs for out-of-hospital Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) services. Once you meet a Medicare Safety Net threshold, you may be eligible for additional Medicare benefits for out-of-hospital MBS services for the rest of the calendar year. Also available is the PBS Safety Net if you and your family need a lot of medicines in any year.

The Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN) is paid to families who have reached the threshold of $1157.50 in out of pocket costs.

Health Fund Rebates and Out-Of-Pocket Expenses

Most major health funds offer extras cover, which may entitle you to a rebate on the cost of your Antenatal care, Antenatal Classes, Birth Fees and Postnatal Care. Note that rebates are only payable for treatments by registered, professional midwives who have been approved by your health fund.

The Organic Midwifery team are fully qualified professional midwives and are registered with some major health funds. Depending on your fund and level of cover, you may be eligible for a rebate for your Midwifery care expenses. Please check with your fund regarding your eligibility and rebate amounts.

The amount of rebate (if any) will depend on your particular Health Fund and your level of cover.

Organic Midwifery will issue invoices clearly displaying Provider Numbers that you can take directly to your fund’s office to make your claim.

Over 30 Health Funds offer rebates on selected services offered by Organic Midwifery! The above Health Fund logos represent only some of these.
